As an American Indian I have seen the depiction of my culture more often than not through the eyes of western culture. I have dealt personally with racism and the misconceptions about my culture through adolescence and into adulthood on a daily basis. I often encounter people that expect me to live up the stereotypes of my culture.
For these reasons I seek to create work that opposes these ideas and expectations. My work is meant to be non-western in appearance while advancing contemporary American Indian culture. The imagery I choose often focuses on American Indian culture and ideas. My latest work focuses on the ideas that our children grow into and eventually inherit from the adults in their lives.
